Keep Riverdale Beautiful will celebrate 28 years of tree recycling by hosting Bring One for the Chipper, in conjunction with Keep Georgia Beautiful, The Home Depot, the Georgia Forestry Commission, the Ferry-Morse Seed Company and the Burpee Seed Company. In 2017, Bring One for the Chipper recycled 95,342 trees, of these, 90,157 were recycled into mulch, 1,944 were sunk into lakes across the state, providing fish habitats, and 1,294 trees were used for “fuel and other uses”.
Keep Riverdale Beautiful is encouraging residents and businesses to recycle their live Christmas trees at Bring One for the Chipper on Saturday, January 5, 2019, 9am-4pm. Each tree collected will be recycled into mulch, which will be donated to local churches, businesses, and schools. Participants will receive free packets of Dogwood and Swamp Chestnut Oak seedlings to encourage them plant trees in their neighborhood.
The owner of the first tree to enter the Chipper Drive-thru will receive a special prize from one of our sponsors. Republic Services will also collect trees on regularly scheduled pickup days during the two-weeks following the Christmas Holiday.
These efforts are intended to discourage illegal tree dumping in the community and encourage proper tree disposal and upcycling aimed at protecting our environment.
