About Leadership Clayton
Leadership Clayton is a leadership development program sponsored by the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce since 1972. Each year Leadership Clayton engages emerging and existing leaders in a nine-month program that broadens their knowledge of community issues, sharpens their leadership skills and challenges themselves and others to seek solutions to those issues affecting our communities. Leadership Clayton is designed for men and women interested in making Clayton County a better place to live, work and play. Leadership Clayton has over 800 graduates through the programs 40 years.
A most important and rewarding part of Leadership Clayton are the class projects. These projects are typically community service oriented and are a fundamental part of the Leadership Clayton program. The class projects engage participants into the community and facilitate their involvement with various groups while empowering them to develop team and individual leadership skills. Each project team is responsible for creating and implementing their program of work with the end result as a sustainable project for the community.
Leadership Clayton participants must live or work in Clayton County, demonstrate leadership ability and possess a strong commitment to serve the community. Consideration will also be given to Clayton County Chamber of Commerce members in good standing. The Leadership Clayton program seeks diversity in the class make-up for representation of a broad cross-section of the community. The Leadership Clayton Advisory Board reviews and selects the class participants. A mini-interview session is required of the finalists for the program.
The Leadership Clayton program begins in September with a mandatory overnight kick-off retreat/orientation. Classes are a single day each month, held on the second, fourth or fifth Tuesday from October-May. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available each year.
The nomination deadline for the 2013-2014 class is June 28 2013.
