Gordon State College Theatre will present a fresh, fast-paced adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, based on the novel by Jane Austen and adapted by Kate Hamill. Performances are scheduled for April 9 at 6:30 p.m., April 10 at 6:30 p.m., April 11 at 6:30 p.m., and April 12 at 2 p.m. Originally published in 1813, Austen’s beloved novel has captivated readers for more than two centuries with its sharp wit, keen social observation and enduring romance. The story follows the fiercely intelligent Elizabeth Bennet as she navigates issues of class, morality and marriage in 19th-century England. When she meets the enigmatic Mr. Darcy, sparks fly — but misunderstandings and societal expectations threaten to keep them apart. Hamill’s adaptation brings contemporary energy to the production while remaining true to Austen’s language and themes.
